The Elliott family of Dawsonville has added another credential to its racing legacy.

Ernie Elliott has been chosen as one of the five 2010 inductees into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

“It is an honor to be inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame,” Elliott said. “I would like to thank the board for recognizing me as an inductee for 2010.”

Elliott, the older brother to racing legend Bill Elliott, was chosen along with Ted Edwards, Jack Etheridge, Jerry Wimbish and Laverne Kendrick for the 2010 class. Elliott is the only living inductee to be chosen for this year’s Hall of Fame.

  1. We all certainly remember that magic year of 1985, when the entire racing world was taken by the Elliott’s from a small town in North Georgia. Stuff that legonds are made of. And it didn’t end in 1985. Bill shook the Nascar world with his swiftness on the Superspeedways of Daytona and Talledega. The humble nature of the Elliotts endeared them to thousands of fans, including myself.

  2. Not only was Ernie a genius in building the power plants for the number 9 team, he was one hell of a crew chief.
    Congrats!!!!

  3. Go ernie go Bill could not have won 10 races and 10 poles in 1985, oh yea plus the only person to legally win the winston million. He also could not have set the all time speed records at daytona and talledega. Also 44 wins 53 poles.
    Thanks.

  4. Like a cornerstone for Bills success…. I got the biggest laugh out of Bills book reading about how Ernie used to drive when they were growing up !

  5. Ernie deserves this honor, and more!
i’ll say it again as i did a few weeks ago. We need some “Ernie Magic” in the the current Ford engine.

  6. I wish that Bill would hook up with Ernie for a couple more runs. I know how hard it is to get money and sponsorship but it would be great to see. One more Daytona run together! I know Bill is commited to the Woods though which I respect. I would love to see Bill race at pocono again, I would get to see him then. He is a master at Pocono, when I was a kid I used to love watching him run around there in the coors car. He was pretty fast in the Dodge dealers car too…………

  7. The master mind behind the power
