Landon Cassill, who finished third in Phoenix Racing’s Nationwide Series car at Daytona in February, will return to the driver’s seat of the team’s Sprint Cup car, the No. 09 Chevrolet, beginning this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. Team owner James Finch said he appreciates the contributions of Bill Elliott, who drove the No. 09 car in the first four Sprint Cup races of 2011 and helped the team achieve its goal of locking in a spot among the top 35 in car owner points, which assures starting positions for upcoming races. With one race remaining before the switch to this year’s points, Phoenix is 26th in the standings, with a comfortable margin over the 36th-place team. “I am very thankful for what Bill has done for my team and sponsors to date, and we look forward to him running races later on this season,” Finch said.  In the meantime, Elliott plans to focus on working with his 15-year-old son Chase, who recently signed a driver agreement with Sprint Cup team owner Rick Hendrick.

  6. Hey 98 mustang, the last interview I remember Bliss having about that organization at Charlotte a couple of years ago leads me to believe that he would quit before he ended up there again. Mike is a real good driver too!

  7. red bull will have an opening next year, maybe 2. furniture row racing is hoping to start a second full time car next year as well….furniture row with a young regan smith would definitley benefit from a veteran like bill driving a second car…could be a nice possible option

  9. Kevin Swindell is driving for Bayne at Dover according to Jayski.

  10. My guess is Bill is not real excited to go race for just anybody, though he did help the #46(think ernie bein involved help that decision) To me with the way he looks physically hes not done racing…still believe charlotte and after something will arise…looks pretty good for hooking up for next year also, lots of uncertainies out there…. it’s so kool to see Chase coming up the ranks with class and talent……GOOD LUCK CHASE!!!!!!!

  11. Are me and Shannon being held hostage on our comments? I know about the approval process but at least put Shannon’s on here. WE don’t cause the trouble. You know Shannon is always positive. I’m a 30 year fan fussing here.

  12. Just wish some owner would get some sense and hire Bill for a few years. I am 53 and cannot stand that everything is for the young, when I was young, we considered the elders experienced and looked up to them and wanted to be like them. We had to pay our dues.
I remember this at work, auto racing, you name it.
Oh well, that is the new world…but darn, what a story if a veteran could light up track again, Bill is as capable today as in the 80s. Mr Hendrick, please talk to Tony Stewart.
